What facilities have email access?

Not all do as we all know; this is what the offical statement from BoP is.

Do all BOP facilities have access to TRULINCS?

No, but the list of facilities where it is available is growing, and TRULINCS is expected to be in all BOP facilities by June 2011. Ask your inmate contact about it!

From http://www.bop.gov/inmate_programs/trulincs_faq.jsp#4

They have switched from Trulincs to Corrlinks. I think that if they had Trulinks they have or will have Corrlinks. Of course the standard BoP answer to everything is ask your inmate! My answer is Ask your Morgantown Wife, we usually know more.

College Classes

Can he take college classes? They offer classes, but I think that they are mostly GED type classes.  Mike took welding and got his certifications, so yes some classes are available.  It just depends what instructors they have avaialable at the time.  According to Mike they can take classes, once the course work is completed they have to pay $150 for the final.  Not all educational institutions will accept the credit hours, just like anyother transfered crredits.  Some are transferable and others aren't.

Email Program

Is the emailing part of the prison or hwh programs? Corrlinks is part of the BoP email system.  Not all facilites have email access, Morgantown is one that does.  Most HWH's do not officially allow internet access by their clients.

Cost of phone calls.

Someone who recently got released told us that phone calls are very expensive to recieve and to change my # to a morgantown # and it will be cheaper. Is this true? They are charged 23 cents per minute from their accounts.  They can call collect which is very expensive.  Make sure he transfers money to his phone account during in-processing or he will have to call collect until his next commissary day, which they get once a week.  I am not sure what it costs for them to call a local number.  Mike and I felt that it was not worth the hassel and expense of changing phone numbers, possibly carriers and signing a new contract for one or two years.  That would be a personal choice depending on your circumstances.  They are only allowed 300 minutes of phone calls a month so they can not spend more than $69 a month on phone calls anyway.  Except during the holidays which they will get 400 minutes for the months of November and December.

Personal Contact at Visits

Staff shall permit limited physical contact, such as
handshaking, embracing, and kissing, between an inmate and a
visitor, unless there is clear and convincing evidence that such
contact would jeopardize the safety or security of the
institution. Where contact visiting is provided, handshaking,
embracing, and kissing are ordinarily permitted within the bounds
of good taste and only at the beginning and at the end of the
visit. The staff may limit physical contact to minimize

Who develops the visitors list for each inmate?

Preparation of The List of Visitors

(1) Staff shall ask each inmate to submit during the
admission-orientation process a list of proposed visitors. After
appropriate investigation, staff shall compile a visiting list
for each inmate and distribute that list to the inmate and the
visiting room officer.]
An inmate will be provided written material on the
institution’s visiting procedures during the intake screening
process. At a minimum, the information will include the
following:
! Facility address/phone number; directions to the
facility and information about local transportation;
! Days and hours of visitation;
! Approved dress code;
! Identification requirements for visitors;

! Items authorized in the visiting room;
! Special rules for children;
! Authorized items that visitors may bring to give to the
inmate, if applicable; and
! Special visit requirements.
Ordinarily, an initial visiting list is prepared and
distributed within the first few days of the inmate's arrival at
an institution. This list identifies immediate family members
approved to visit the inmate. Additional family members and
friends may be added following the completion of an appropriate
investigation.

Whenever a person is deleted from or added to an inmate's
visitor list, staff will update the list as soon as possible to
reflect the change. A copy of the most current approved visiting
list will be placed in section 3 of the Inmate Central File.

Staff shall notify the inmate of each approval or
disapproval of a requested person for the visiting list. Upon
approval of each visitor, staff shall provide the inmate with a
copy of the visiting guidelines and with directions for
transportation to and from the institution. The inmate is
responsible for notifying the visitor of the approval or
disapproval to visit and is expected to provide the approved
visitor with a copy of the visiting guidelines and directions for
transportation to and from the institution. The visiting
guidelines shall include specific directions for reaching the
institution and shall cite 18 U.S.C. 1791, which provides a
penalty of imprisonment for not more than twenty years, a fine,
or both for providing or attempting to provide to an inmate
anything whatsoever without the knowledge and consent of the
Warden.]

New questions

1. If my dad takes cash, will it be availible right away? If not, how will be buy stuff from the commisary the first day? If he doesn't buy stuff the first day, how will he brush his teeth, take a shower, etc the second day or until he can buy stuff? Which is the fastest? Cash or check or money order? They will issue him items to get him through. Take cash. Yes it will be available. No checks! Money Orders take the longest.

2. I read somewhere on the website that for me to transfer money to western union he has to be in BOP custody or they will return the money. Is that true? I think you will be able to transfer money through WU now. If not wait till that morning as it only takes a couple of hours to post to their accounts when you use them. Make sure you get a gold card. Everytime you refrence it they will put phone minutes on it which he can use once he is released to HWH. HWH rates where mike is $1 for 10 minutes.
3. He is not very computer savy, is there a way i can show him how to use the TRULINCS system? I tried googling it to see if there would be a picture or something that I can explain to him but nothing. Can one of you guys describe it? Maybe once I know what unit he will be in, maybe someone can ask their husband/dad/brother to help him out with it? One of the guys will help him. From what mike says it is nothing more than a word processing program.

4. Books, there is only 3 at a time, is that correct? So he has to get rid of the ones we before? You can only send 3 at a time in. They have to come from a publisher, unless they are paperbacks. It was easier to send all books from amazon for me and not have to worry about them sending it back. As far as how many he can in there I have no idea. I know mike gave most of his books to guys that didn't get any or to the library.
